Beginning
at the golf course beach at Makahoa Point stretching for 5 miles up and around
coast to North Shore and Turtle Bay. Can walk, usually isolated and unvisited.
Past north of the park, along Kahuku golf course wide and sandy, with many sand
dunes. Avoid swimming, strong offshore current. Rest of shoreline for three
quarters way to Turtle Bay consists of sand stretches with rocky out croppings.
Shore bottom rocky. Beaches beautiful and isolated. Sand deep but not safe for
swimming. Hanakailio Beach adjacent abandoned Kahuku airfield longest length
of Sandy Beach area. Bare feet dangerous because of sharp mollusk, wear foot
protection. Beyond Kahuku Point, Kaihalulu Beach at one mile in length - sandy,
shoreline rocky reef. Halfway down the beach is a small protect pool. Around
Kalaeokamanu Point there is Kuilima Cove (Turtle bay) where many people come
to swim.
Large lawn area, shade trees, parking, life guard, calm waters. Off shore can see Popoia or Flat Island and Moku Lua Islands. Can paddle over there. Popular beach but usually not crowded during the week.
Stretches more than 3 miles around Waimanalo Bay. State beach parks around here all lined with ironwood trees, providing nice shade for picnics. Some waves.
Curving around from Mokapu Peninsula, Kailua Bay has white sand and turquoise waters. Turtles are common here and see a lot of windsurfers because of onshore winds.

got it's name because turtles can be seen sun bathing here at all hours of the day.
Directions: 2.3 miles from Waimea Bay coming from La'ie. You will see parking lot on the right, usually with plenty of cars parked there. The beach is across the road down to the right.

In 1988 an underwater marine park was designated next to Sans Souci from the War Memorial Natatorium to the Kapahulu Ave. Groin, near the Honolulu Zoo. No fishing allowed.
